Low Income Setting Solutions
Ethical Design
At EDaS Ltd, we specialise in ethical product development tailored to low-income settings, where traditional market-driven models often fail. We design solutions that align with the GDP and real-world needs of the regions they serve, delivering affordability without compromising quality.
By doing so, we disrupt conventional paradigms, challenging the reluctance of Western markets to offer low-cost alternatives that could undermine their own profitability. Our approach not only ensures accessibility but fosters innovation rooted in equity, sustainability, and local empowerment.

The Mission
Prosthetic Access Worldwide
Providing affordable, effective prosthetics in low-resource settings is a challenge not due to lack of technology, but because of market resistance. Western prosthetic manufacturers continue to operate at high price points, despite the clear potential to produce high-quality, low-cost alternatives. At EDaS, we’ve proven that it’s possible to deliver durable, functional prosthetic feet at a fraction of traditional costs, without compromising on quality. Our work challenges the status quo, and in doing so, disrupts a Western market reluctant to lower prices, even when it's technologically and economically feasible. By refusing to perpetuate inflated costs, we aim to reshape global access to prosthetics and ensure no one is denied mobility due to financial constraints.
Mission Progress
Across Africa, the devastating impact of landmines leaves thousands of individuals, particularly in rural areas, with life-changing injuries, often resulting in lower-limb amputations. These individuals face not only physical challenges but also social stigma, isolation, and limited access to employment. At EDaS, we recognize the urgent need for practical and sustainable solutions. That’s why we’ve partnered with STAND (Legs for Africa) at their rehabilitation centre in Moshi, Tanzania, to develop and supply a low-cost prosthetic foot tailor made to the needs of local amputees. By combining our design and manufacturing capabilities with STAND’s on-the-ground expertise, we’re working to return independence and dignity to those whose lives have been altered by conflict and poverty.

DC3 Prosthetic Foot
The DC3 is a full length, Energy Storage and Return (High Activity) Prosthetic foot that can be tuned to an individual amputee by a moderately skilled prosthetist.
The DC3 is designed to offer vastly improved function over the more usual foot design used in low income regions - the Solid Ankle Cushion heel (SACH) foot.

Disrupting the market
The DC3 design links a self limiting ankle flexion unit with a flat, elastic (springy) sole to gain many of the advantages of foot ankle units costing thousands of pounds more.
The foot is designed to get highly functional feet onto the legs of the people who need them, young, highly active amputees, rather than the present situation where they are restricted only to the wealthy by the price point.
